Opteon™ MZ Fluid for Thermal Management

A Working Fluid for Waste Heat Recovery

High-temperature heat pumps and organic Rankine cycles (ORCs) are used to efficiently convert waste heat into useful energy. Opteon™ MZ working fluid is a new generation hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) based option with low global warming potential (GWP) that delivers superior performance.

Based on the HFO-1336mzz(Z) molecule, Opteon™ MZ allows heat pump and ORC systems to operate over an expansive temperature range. It can be used as a replacement for previously used hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) and hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) solutions.

Features and Benefits

Opteon™ MZ is stable to more than 225 °C (437 °F) and can enable temperatures above 160 °C (320 °F) in high-temperature heat pump and ORC applications.

In addition to working in systems that operate at higher temperatures, Opteon™ MZ provides a number of environmental and safety benefits, including:

  • A GWP of 2
  • Zero ozone depletion potential (ODP)
  • Nonflammable, with an A1 ASHRAE safety classification
